Overcoming detection loss and noise in squeezing-based optical sensing

چکیده
Abstract Among the known resources of quantum metrology, one most practical and efficient is squeezing. Squeezed states atoms light improve sensing phase, magnetic field, polarization, mechanical displacement. They promise to considerably increase signal-to-noise ratio in imaging spectroscopy, are already used real-life gravitational-wave detectors. But despite being more robust than other states, they still very fragile, which narrows scope their application. In particular, squeezed useless measurements where detection inefficient or noise high. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a remedy against loss noise: strong noiseless amplification before detection. This way, achieve loss-tolerant operation an interferometer fed with coherent light. With only 50% efficiency exceeding level 50 times, overcome shot-noise limit by 6 dB. Sub-shot-noise phase sensitivity survives up 87% loss. Application this technique types optical promises full use these fields.

Overcoming quantum noise in optical fibers
Noise in optical telecommunication fibers is an important limitation on optical quantum data transmission. Unfortunately, the classically successful amplifiers cannot be used in quantum communication because of the no-cloning theorem. We propose a simple method to reduce quantum noise: the insertion of phase shifters and/or beam splitters at regular distance intervals into a fiber. We analyze i...
متن کاملKerr noise reduction and squeezing
We introduce a model of squeezing and noise reduction in the Kerr effect that accounts for noise in all quadratures of the driving field. Consequently we show that Kerr squeezing is much more sensitive to driving noise than squeezing produced by second harmonic generation (SHG). We experimentally demonstrate this sensitivity using a nonlinear system that tunes between strong classical SHG and K...

متن کاملSoliton squeezing in optical fibers
The use of squeezed light can overcome the standard quantum limit in phase sensitive optical measurements. This thesis is a theoretical and experimental investigation of soliton squeezing at 1.55gm. Theoretically, the effects of the continuum on squeezing have been investigated. Experimentally, modelocked fiber laser sources at 1.55gm have been developed for both schemes and their noise propert...
